1. Introduction

Our Computer Science (CS) Program was ranked the nation's best in 1996 and 2006 by the national academic assessment. As our international reputation for excellence in education and research increasingly growing and the demand for CS education with diversified student body rapidly increasing, we offer this master program in Advanced Computing.

In this program, we offer a broad and innovative course curriculum focusing on both cutting-edge advances in CS and Chinese practices. This program aims to foster CS professionals who have comprehensive computer skills, excellent academic merit, and great global perspectives. We welcome applicants all over the world with a Bachelor's degree in CS or other related areas. The program is designed to be completed in two years of full-time study, including completion of the course curriculum and the master's thesis.

2. Courses

Students are required to complete a minimum of 27 credits from the following (about 9 courses), excluding credits received for thesis work.

1) Compulsory courses (S-Spring, F-Fall)

• Chinese Language (2 credits F)

• Chinese Culture and Society (2 credits F)

• Academic Activities (1 credit)

• Literature Survey and Thesis Proposal(1 credit)

• Combinatorics and Algorithms Design (3 credits F)

• Object-Oriented Software Development Technology (3 credits F)

2) Elective Courses (no less than 15 credits, S-Spring, F-Fall)

• Web Information Retrieval (3 credits S)

• Future Internet Architecture and Technologies (3 credits S)

• Database Technologies (3 credits S)

• Human Computer Interaction Technology (3 credits S)

• Intelligent processing of visual media (3 credits F)

• Procedure and Method of Software Project Management (3 credits F)

• Architecture and System Software for Multi-core Processors (3 credits F)

3. Thesis

Students are required to conduct an independent research project supervised by a faculty member. A written master thesis research proposal and a formal presentation are required in the second term. Students are required to submit a thesis in English and a final oral defense is required.

4. Qualification of Applicants

Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in CS or other related areas.

5. Application Documents

(1) The completed Foreigner's Application Form for Admission to Graduate Programs of Tsinghua University (original and duplicated);

(2) Personal Statement;

(3) The original or the notarized photocopies of degree certificate or proof of education in academic institution, and academic transcript (original and duplicated);

(4) Two academic recommendation letters from scholars of associate professorship or higher (original and duplicated);

(5) Two copies of the page with personal information in the passport (personal and ordinary passport);

(6) Two copies of applicant's recent photo (cap-free, 2 inches, stick on the application form);

(7) The completed Application Form for Tsinghua University Scholarship (if applicable, original and duplicated).

The application fee is RMB 600 (non-refundable).

The certificates provided should be the original documents in Chinese or in English, otherwise notarized translations in Chinese or English are required. None of the above application documents will be returned.

6. Application Procedure

Step1: Online Application

Complete On-line Application, on the website of Foreign Student Affairs Office, Tsinghua University (http://intlstudent.cic.tsinghua.edu.cn). Print and sign two hard copies of the Application Form produced by the system after the application status changes to “verified”. Download and complete the Application Form for Tsinghua University Scholarship for future students (if you intend to apply).

Step 2: Documents Submission

Submit the application documents listed above to the address indicated below by post mail or in person.

7. Application Schedule

November 1, 2009 – February 28, 2010.

The online application should be completed and the package be received by February 28, 2010.

8. Tuition and Scholarship

Tuition: RMB 39,000/year.

Accidental Injury and Hospitalization Insurance: RMB600/year.
